I know I missed Friday Silliness yesterday. So, I thought I would show you a little of what has been keeping me so busy. I am having to work extra to afford massive amounts of hot dogs these days for a new visitor to my home. This egret has decided to call my home his. When we walk out onto the porch, he is there waiting and walks right up to us expecting his hot dogs. When I come home from any trips away, he flies right down behind my car as it pulls into the garage and stands at my door as I get out.
We have named him StoopBoyd after a cartoon (Hey Arnold!) character who would not leave his stoop. Recently he has been inviting friends, in particular a gray heron who, as of now, remains unnamed. Yesterday, StoopBoyd entered the house looking for more hotdogs. I had my son escort him back outside, as I cleaned up his thank you gift. (Yes, I was careful not to touch anything with my bare hands, thanks for asking Stan!)
So here he is, the most recent addition to our family, StoopBoyd!
Egret, stage right 🙂
lovely!
so now I suppose I should bring hotdogs to porch night?
belladona
@ belladona, yes and some extra wine for the bird!
I think it is so cool that he’s taken up with you. He has great taste in people!
I do wish you would stop feeding him hot dogs, though. Those are bad enough for humans — just imagine how bad they are for a bird! Fresh fish would be the right food for him (or her).
Tell Stoop Boyd that if he ever joins Twitter I will follow him for sure 😉

I hear you margaret, but I live on the water. Stoopboyd has fresh fish everywhere! Just seems they love hot dogs. I’ve tried other meats and he shuns them.
We had similar occurrences with our squirrels when we started feeding them on our back patio. They began to lean up against our windows when there was no food and then came along a large over friendly woodchuck which ended feeding the animals for me. I was afraid they would enter our home if we forgot and left our doors open as well…
So cute as they are…no more food from us..
Cute post..

Beautiful. 🙂
Your friend looks like the same one that visits our neighborhood. He even bit Bill on the finger one day.It was very funny.Bill didn’t think so but I did.
lol extra wine ‘for the bird’ uh-huh. A likely story.
StoopBoyd is ever so graceful 🙂 I hope I get to meet him one day!
I was sitting out on our deck enjoying coffee one summer morning when a blue jay landed on the deck railing right next to me. Within a minute another landed and then another until I had 5 blue jays all standing next to me.
They walked around unperturbed, squawking at each other and nibbling away at the remains of my muffin.
I wanted to call my wife but feared that would frighten them away. After about 1o minutes, they all gradually began flying off in different directions.
I have no idea what that was all about and I’ve never been that close to a blue jay again.
