This is a great little story that I was sent in email. The point is how a simple reframe of our thoughts can have such a huge impact on our beliefs!

A Simple Reframe That Changes Everything

A minister I know once took a long flight across the country. Trouble announced itself early when the seat belt sign lit up. Not long after, a calm voice came over the intercom:

“We will not be serving beverages at this time. We are expecting a bit of turbulence. Please make sure your seat belt is fastened.”

As the minutes passed, tension spread through the cabin. The announcement came again, this time canceling the meal service. Turbulence still lay ahead.

Then the storm hit.

Thunder cracked loudly above the engines. Lightning sliced through the dark sky. The airplane pitched and dropped like a cork on a wild ocean—lifting on powerful currents one moment and plunging the next. Fear rippled through the cabin.

The minister later admitted that he felt the same fear as everyone else. He looked around and saw alarm on nearly every face. Many passengers wondered silently whether they would make it through the storm.

Then he noticed a little girl.

She sat calmly in her seat with her feet tucked beneath her, reading a book. The storm seemed to have no meaning for her at all. She occasionally closed her eyes, then returned to her reading. She stretched her legs and shifted slightly, but fear never entered her small world.

While the plane shook violently—while it rose and fell with frightening force and adults gripped their armrests—the child remained completely composed.

The sight amazed him.

After the plane landed and passengers rushed to disembark, the minister waited. He approached the girl and commented on the storm and the rough flight. He asked her why she hadn’t felt afraid.

She looked up and answered simply:

“Because my Daddy’s the pilot—and he’s taking me home.”

A new study reports that self hypnosis training in children and adolescents may result in significant improvement of chronic headaches. Researchers from the University of Minnesota investigated the results of treatment for chronic headaches in youth using self hypnosis. The study found a reduction in frequency, intensity and duration of these headaches among the group of outpatients who were taught and used self hypnosis techniques. There were no adverse effects reported. Imagine that, pain relief without drugs! Think how our children could benefit if they were taught self hypnosis instead of pill popping. Hmmm…..

We decided to take a much needed extended weekend away from the phones. So, we booked a room at the Loews Hotel in Miami beach. We got a suite, water view. We were set for a weekend of luxury, knowing it would be costly, perhaps as much as we have spent on week long vacations in the past.

Well, my husband discovered he had enough American Express points to cover half of the nights we would be staying. Great! Savings number one. The day before we were set to leave, the phone call comes. Computer glitch, our room was not going to be available. Oh no! Well, they could give us a suite on the 18th floor, not water view, but lovely just the same. They dropped the cost of the room by $195 per night and threw in a $75 gift certificate for our inconvenience.

Wow, savings numbers two and three.

When we arrived, our room wasn’t ready. Apparently, the people in the suite before us hadn’t left yet. This was not a great thing to hear as we were tired and wanted to clean up and relax. Plus, I got a call: I needed to check a proof and had to meet a deadline. I was permitted to use the business center for free! Only a $5 savings, but still savings number four! However, they gave us yet another $50 gift certificate for the inconvenience. Savings number five! We finally got into our room, half of it!

It seems housekeeping was still cleaning the parlor portion of our room. Four large adults stuck in a bedroom! Once again they choose to make it better for us. Well, it seems they don’t like to have guests wait to check in. So, yet again one more gift certificate.

We received $200 for dinner! Savings number six. The trip has only begun. I wonder what opportunities and possibilities will arise over the rest of the weekend.

I have to tell you, prior to the trip, I had been over-tired and allowed doubt to enter into my mind. Should we spend this money? I had felt myself begin to slip into a poverty mentality. So, I instantly did a self hypnosis on prosperity thinking. I also read a portion of the Laws of Success, by Napolean Hill. I shared with a friend how I wanted to feel; she encouraged those beliefs.

Now, walking down Ocean Avenue, I looked up today at the hotel and was amazed at the hotel and how my room is on the top floor, with the biggest patio in the hotel. (It is bigger than the one on the back of my home, which I always considered fairly sizable.)

Super Kids

Written by:

It is amazing how wonderful young people today are. In my experience, the young people of today have been exposed to so much. They have always lived in a fast paced world, with microwave moments and sound byte communications. The expectations academically seem to be more and more accelerated with every year. The internet has allowed for social interaction beyond the neighborhood or even the local community.

What I observe is that so many young people use this expansion and opportunity to create a more powerful future for not just themselves, but for the world as they perceive it. They volunteer in astounding numbers. Young people save lives through fundraising efforts. They chanage the course of the lives of individuals and communities. For instance young Talia Leman. Talia is the founder and CEO of her own non profit organization, Random Kid. RandomKid takes the ideas of the kids for a better tomorrow seriously and helps to make them a reality. RandomKid empowers children to solve real-world problems. Talia has realized that everyone is significant and possesses the power to make a difference in the life of another.

In my office, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with amazing young people. Olympic hopefuls, actors auditioning for Broadway, equestrians and many others. It is a joy to see these young people who are so full of promise and enthusiasm harness the power of their mind and bodies to become the superstars they were meant to be.

Isreali study proves hypnosis can double IVF success rate. Eliahu Levitas, a professor from Isreal and his team from Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, Isreal wanted to see if hypnosis could make the embryo transfer stage of IVF more successful. According to Levitas, stress can cause complications during the transfer that can put the procedure at risk. “Other techniques have been employed like relaxants and tranquilizers, but nothing has worked well. On the other hand, hypnosis has been known for many years for producing central relaxation, and has even been used before surgical interventions to calm patients,” said Levitas.

Not that the ideas seem all that revolutionary. Stress could interfere? Really. As a hypnotist I would never have guessed. Ok, so I am being a bit overly sarcastic. I have a friend who is wound up tighter than a spring. She had one child and hoped for another, so she went through IVF several times. With each unsuccessful attempt she became more upset and manifested even more physical ailments.

The good news is, she finally was able to adopt the most adorable children on the face of this planet. She loves them and they are a delight to behold.

This study sure could make Father’s Day possible for alot more men!

positive goals

There is a gentleman in the U.K. who is creating quite a stir. He entered the Britian’s Got Talent show to perform Opera. He is shy and not a man that most would call handsome, certainly not in Hollywood sense. Even his smile denotes a sadness in his eyes. In his interview he calls his voice his best friend, it seems his voice gave him comfort when bullies picked on him and they did quite often. He has had some formal training in opera, even sang a bit. However, he has had to battle health issues and recover from a motorcycle accident that left him with a broken collarbone.

When he began to sing, I never expected to be so moved. In fact, I thought this was going to be a prank of some sort by my husband who insisted I listen. Paul Potts is my hero! Listen to both clips, it’s worth it!

Exercise

Written by:

“Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”

Edward Stanley
Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

It is interesting how many people come to see me for weight management and when the time comes to discuss exercise, they become adament that they don’t/won’t exercise. Either they don’t like to sweat or they don’t have time. Truth be told, there will never be the right time. You may be waiting for things to calm down but, life is busy, things happen. Your job, family obligations, social networking are going to continue. When you exercise, you can do it all with a clearer more focused mind. Exercise gives you a sense of accomplishment. You have to admit, it sure feels good when you finish to say you are a person who follows through on a commitment.

So, start small. Walk the dog, take the stairs instead of the elevator and give yourself a goal of 15 minutes a day just for exercise. Play golf, ride your bike, join the kids at the park. The more you succeed, the more you teach your brain to find pleasure in exercise and a powerful feeling of success.

The beauty of hypnosis sessions for exercise increase is that we get past all the excuses the client can create. We find the real block to exercise and remove it, release it, get rid of it! Then we get to a place where the individual creates a real genuine desire for those powerful feelings generated in you after your best work out ever!

Father’s Day is fast approaching. For me, this is a special time. My father is alive and still my hero. He taught me to walk my talk. He showed me to listen with my head and my heart. He encouraged me to “whistle while I work.” The whistling may not fit during a hypnosis session. But the idea remains the same.

My father never let failure define him. I watched him tinker in the garage. He fixed things while staying totally focused and relaxed. If something broke in his hands, he would quietly whistle. Then he analyzed the problem. Soon, he had it working again.

The same approach applied to personal trials. He listened to my stories of trouble. He grew quiet for a moment. Then he pointed out what I could learn. He encouraged me to step out in faith. I was not alone. I had support. I had the ability to succeed.

When he first heard about my interest in hypnosis, he felt concerned. He knew the common myths. He wanted me safe. I shared the facts with him. He listened carefully. Once he saw it was natural, safe, and effective, he supported it. Now he inspires many of my sessions. (He doesn’t know this. He is never present, and we never discuss it.)

Funny thing: he practiced hypnosis long before he knew the term. That intense focus on solutions. Those mindful moments. The whistling to quiet the conscious mind. All are part of hypnosis. He loves to fish. It relaxes him deeply. Amazing ideas surface in his subconscious while he waits for a bite. While waiting and praying, inspirations flow. Magnificent Bible lessons pour out of him.

My sons Fathers

My sons are blessed with two fathers. Their Bio-Dad (my first husband) and their Step-Dad. Both men love the boys deeply. Each has contributed in his own unique way. One funny memory stands out.

Both dads took my sons to the driving range. The oldest finished his bucket of balls. He sat back to watch. His head turned from one dad to the other. With every swing he said, “Good shot, Dad! Good shot, Dad!” Each dad got praise on every shot. Onlookers seemed confused, but they didn’t care.

Recently I was interviewed on Tampabay’s10 news regarding my work with golfers. So, in honor of my Dad, my sons Dads and all the other dads out there, I am offering discounted golf sessions for a limited time. Contact me through email or go to my website: www.wisdomhypnosis.com for more details.

Happy Father’s Day to all!

I must confess….it is true…I have a tremendous weakness, an addiction if you will…..

I am hooked on hypnosis! It is so much fun to relax and allow my creative subconscious take over. Life has it’s ups and downs, no matter who you are. I am a pretty positive person, or so I am told by everyone! In fact, my husband embarrasses me with his comments about my positive attitude. (He claims sunshine emits from my body which is funny because my Grandfather’s nickname for me as a child was Sunshine Cookie!) Still, I am human and I have moments. It is in those times that my addiction kicks in. When I feel overwhelmed or constrained, I allow myself to lapse into trance. Quick and easy, it is a natural state, suddenly my subconscious takes over and possibilities and opportunities become my reality.

Recently, I had a very real challenge. It concerned my youngest son and his health. Most any parent understands that when the kids are concerned, you will do anything to take their pain away. And I do mean anything. Well, the facts were not looking so positive. The reality seemed harsh. So, when I would feel myself going to that grim, dark place, I had no choice. I had to focus on possibilities. After all, my son was counting on me.

I would relax, recall all the great moments of my life, of his life and of times I have spent with our family that are great. Next, I would allow myself to fill with that powerful, positive emotion and then transfer those thoughts to him in a future moment, healthy and happy. Finally, I would see us celebrating his successes in life. It helped me focus on the possibilities that he has. He did the same thing during this process, focusing on reaching his goals. (He is an amazing young man, I think he is who I want to be when I grow up!)

Good news….he is healthy. He is happy. I am overjoyed!
